Bassoon

A charismatic soloist and chamber musician, Joseph Jones began studying the bassoon at age 12. In 2013, he was awarded a McKnight Foundation “Next Step” grant to explore his love of baroque music and the baroque bassoon. Also an active composer, he has performed and recorded with rock, folk, and jazz, as well as art-music groups, and his compositions span a range of genres, including collaborations with singers, songwriters, film makers, and choreographers.

Since 2011 Joseph has been the principal bassoonist with the Minnesota Sinfonia. He also serves as the conductor and artistic director for the St. Paul Postal Band and on the music faculty at Normandale Community College. Joseph graduated summa cum laude from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Music. He obtained his Master of Music degree in bassoon performance from the University of Minnesota. Among other academic honors, he was a Berneking Fellow and was selected to perform as a concerto soloist three times. His primary bassoon teachers include John W.
